Atoma is the eleventh full-length studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity. It was released on 4 November 2016 through Century Media Records. Atoma is the band's first studio album with new bassist Anders Iwers, who replaced founding member Martin Henriksson also the rhythm guitarist, after Henriksson left the band in early 2016 due to loss of passion for playing music. Though these guys have been going strong since their 93 debut Skydancer, this eleventh album only sees them stronger than ever. Theyve only gotten better since their unexpected watershed moment in We Are The Void and both this album and Construct seem to pave over that little mishap in a fashion that almost makes me wonder if the aforementioned recording ever really existed at all. Removing it from the equation, I could say that Dark Tranquillity are one of the few bands that I feel has never really made a ba. Atoma is a bittersweet ordeal for me. Its the album with which Dark Tranquillity have finally solidified their pop-tinged style and ironed out the creases, with the hitches of We Are the Void now a distant memory. As someone who once worshipped the ground this band walked upon, its personally gratifying to see them fulfil their ambitions, but at the same time, Atoma completes their migration away from the riff-centric approach that made me fall in love with them in the first place.
