I have both black and clear, they sound exactly the same (same mastering).I spotted last week a clear vinyl at a yard sale for 30€, so don't be desperate, they are out there and can be found for reasonable price.

Hello everybody! I bought two clear lp with 3 lithographs direct from Bowie store after 2 week its exit. Lithographs Was arrived late in december, the lps late in january. Seald Both cover presents a cut on the bottom of the 1 wing,in corrispondence of the vinyl maybe a production defect(does anyone had the same damned problem?). Warner music refund me the money without ask me back nothing. I'd just opened and listened one copy, put on the wall the 1set of lithos. The Seconds lp &lithos for my 3yo doughter when i'll r.i.p. Sorry for my very bad english! P.s. Amazing masterpiece timeless priceless, our brightest Blackstar goodbye

Is the EU clear vinyl press more desirable than the US clear vinyl version? or are they both the same?

The clear vinyl is symbolic-a bright, clear star, David Bowie shining in the sky. This is why the clear vinyl is so special. I haven't opened my clear copy. I have a 5yo daughter. I plan to hand it down to her when she's ready

Totally dis agree, polishing the grooves while playing ( on a good stylus improves the sound ) and as for the cycle of life, well let’s live in the now and enjoy every copy pressed.

wow, pathetic and just wrong. don't overhype the love for vinyl that hard. it's just the "rarity" that turns you on... sad.

I see what you mean. Since I got it I've listened to it four times, but I'm super careful with it and don't plan on playing it very much anymore. It's like the holy grail of my collection now, especially since I'm a bowie fan.

The best comment so far here. I have been critisized here for telling people not to open the clear version because it is rare. I also do not open rare items, not because I want to affect the future price valuation, but for the same reason you do: To hand it down to my next generation. Unfortunatelly, vinyl is not like CD. The vinyl has a certain number of plays, which is affected by some factors (stylus quality, treatment over the years, etc). It is therefore wise to lenghthen the cyrcle life of special items, as much as you can.

There are so many haters about white vinyl sellers, but let's be honest: the album is good, but not so much so that Blackstar sales exceed sales of the penultimate albums. All this is simply due to the death of Bowie. And in this we are not honest: and those who are so eager to buy any vinyl, or who so crave white or sells it.Unfortunately, I also became the same, though i was planning to buy it, but not so fast.

Bought it, opened it, playing it, keeping it. Not sure I like the idea of people profiting from Bowie's death... prices will drop though. You're mad if you buy it now.

So apparently people are recommending to not open this because it's rare. RARE. You bought this goddamn album, and while it's always up to the person who owns it to do what they want with it, I'd say you sure as hell should listen to the music which you bought with your money. 5000 isn't even that rare. I own plenty of albums that would be considered rare, even one album that went for 300 pressings (City of the Sun by Seven Impale, really good modern prog), and they don't sell for $500. This is just stupid price gouging, plain and simple. If you legitimately think this will be worth the price it is right now in a few years you are bullshitting yourself. Vinyl's as good as an "investment" as baseball cards and beanie babies were.

It is if around 50,000 folk want it and it's his last official record in its Ltd edtn format. It's selling from £200 now. It's the record everyone wants to gave and was his 1st USA no1 lp. Every time one goes up for sale on auction sites it's going......and fast!

Completely agree, it's his swansong and it was a classic, I missed the boat early and had to pay well over its original price....but was worth every penny.Beauty is in the eye if the beholder.I think this will be one of his rarest releases and see a copy never falling short of £150-200 now. These 1st coloured ltd edition's will always be sought after now.

I mean that I believe that the number of pressings is not the only factor to make a record rare. It depends on other factors too. It's a combination of a lot of things. Sure if 5000 pressings on black vinyl were made, they would be also rare. But let me ask you this: 5000 pressings of clear vinyl were also on sale before the 10th of January. Why they were still in stock until that day? Isn't a factor that Mr Bowie left us on the 10th of January and everybody tried to buy the ltd edition asap? Why the 5000 clear vinyl was not rare before? I'll tell you why: Because there was one more factor. The death of Mr Bowie. And everybody tried to buy his "swan song". I am really not a seller, I also get mad when i want a ltd edition that is really expensive, but that's the way it is.

It makes me sick to see dealers buying albums just to sell them with right after the press is sold out . Go to the market section and you'll find only mint copies with ridiculous prices. Yet none has been sold so good look with them...

What do you mean "Rarity does not only come from the number of pressings"? are 5000 copies of black vinyl less rare than 5000 copies of clear vinyl?

I agree with your sentiments but 5000 isn't really that much when it comes to someone as huge and prolific as David Bowie, who has sold millions of records.

I believe that you refering to my comment with your comment. The bitter truth is that the clear vinyl is (or will be more) rare. Rarity does not only come from the number of pressings. Many factors contribute, such as the artist, the color of vinyl, the packaging etc. And due to the latest circumstances, this version is rare. Supply and demand define the prices for now, but that means that after a while the supply will be much more limited, so the demand (thus the prices) will rise. Anyway, time will tell.As for the "do not open" advise, I was refering only to vinyl freaks, not to the average vinyl collectors/listeners. It's everyone's right to do whatever they want, but as far as I'm concerned, it's a shame to open this. (its just an aspect).Kind regards

Opinions:1)There are definitely only 2 clear vinyl versions, the european and the US. Everyone can see the labels that differ. But does that mean that every version is limited to 2500? 2) To all those who did not have the insight to pre order the clear vinyl pressing (which was available from November to 9th of January) and now they are bitching about the expensive prices: tough luck, get over it, stop crying and if you really want the item, put your hand deeply in the pocket. That's why it is called "ltd edition". (I am not a seller, I don't care, but when I want a record really bad, I am willing to pay the price)3) To all the vinyl freaks, an advise: If you have the clear vinyl version, do not open. Just wait for the repress of simple black vinyl or buy the cd. Damn, this clear vinyl version is really rare.4) The album is awesome. What a music!!! Mr Bowie was an art genius...

Some people did pre-order before his death and had pre-orders canceled after due the the demand. Some of us can not afford the inflated price and as we ordered before when stock was plentiful we can be upset by matters as they panned out. So next time you feel the need to spout such utter nonsense about things you know absolutely nothing about have a little think before you chat your nonsense next time!

A stunning album. Please, wait until the represses in February. This album is possibly Bowie's best, but not anywhere near as valuable as the dumbness who are trying to flip it for 70 times it's actual worth. Nothing special. It actually is noisier and more prone to distortion due to not having the properties of black vinyl. Nothing significantly bad for clear vinyl. An absolute masterpiece of Bowie's

No need to judge a buyer or a seller. This obviously has value for those who are into collecting. If you want to buy it because you want to collect it, go ahead, pay whatever it's worth to you. However, the prices will come down again. 5000 out there is simply way too much to sustain these prices. Buying at this point with the objective to make money would be insane, because the market will be flooded with people trying to sell this. I see the number of sellers already increase gradually on Ebay. I think we'll have seen the price peak within a few days.On a more important note, back to the music: I think the album is magnificent.

Clear vinyl is noisey like a picture disc. I got the pre release with litho's and was quite disappointed with the clear vinyl. I sold into the frenzy and got the black version instead which is just fine.

Generally? Not true, vinyl is actually clear by default. Its made black by adding carbon black into the vinyl mix. Clear vinyl in my experience is usually pretty quiet. I find white coloured vinyl to be one of the worst.

aroberts16 I got $400 for this ;)*Extra Words Extra Words Extra Words* Well good for you, but what did you spend the money on? I’d bet you can’t even remember! So you profited off of the loss of a great musician. Are you watching over the shoulder of the next great performer we may loose like a volture now? I personally just buy albums to listen to them, not to increase my bank account. I have several copies in my collection that I could get over $500 for, but it kind of defeats the purpose of collecting collecting vinyl, don’t you think? I’m not interested in selling my collection. I’ll sell any doubles I may have, but not in the manner these are being jacked up in price! It’s just insulting to fans of these musicians and their families as well. If I need $400 that bad, I have no business even collecting vinyl and audiophile CDs in the first place.Texasbear

Pre-ordered the limited clear after reading Tony talk about how they were listening to Kendrick Lamar and going for a Krautrock vibe. No way I'm missing out on that. Received the package after getting home from a late night working, so excited to be able to listen to it the next day. Woke up the next day to the news of his passing, listened to it all day. A beautiful final gift he gave us all. Holding on to it forever.

Man, had the same experience. Except with me it was a little more perverse in that it arrived on the day Bowie died. This didn't help with the grieving process, nor did it make me positive about spinning the vinyl. I was keen on getting the clear version, and the lithographs. I got a 1st edition LP at the same time to play and managed to listen to that a few weeks after - majorly impressed.

You are absolutely correct. People have forgotten about why most of us buy vinyl LPs or really any format of music we prefer. It’s become a game of greed where certain people will buy up several copies just to try and make a profit off of the loss of a great artist! I’ve got a signed Pete Townsend copy of “Give Blood” and it’s in immaculate condition. Hell, I play the album occasionally when I want to hear it. It’s not something I will ever sell, unless I have to in order to live, but I play most all of my autographed copies in my collection. I had the Tom Petty “Damn The Torpedoes” in my want list. The limited Red vinyl pressing. I had a few sellers offer to sell this to me for $200 USD to around $275. Then shortly, we lost yet another great and beloved artist too soon once again. The same sellers started sending me much higher offers for this album, $400 USD and upwards. I just removed it from my want list. I have the black remastered version, same pressing at the same studio, but it’s black and it sounds incredible! It’s just that it really iratates the Hell out of me when people use the loss of an incredible artist to try and profit from our loss as fans an music lovers. I was lucky enough to see Tom Petty perform 3 times and he was a phenomenal artist and entertainer! You can’t put a price on the experience of seeing someone you like perform! Another thing that pisses me off is these people who buy up all the limited releases and then sell them for twice what the items actually cost. I was smart enough to buy the Suede Box set from Amazon UK and I actually got it cheaper by preordering it than what it was released at when it Hit the release date. I got mine for like $178 USD and after it’s release, people where selling copies of this incredible box set for over $1000.00 USD. I have been lucky as RSD is a nightmare here in Austin, Texas. I sold some Japanese mini lp cds to a guy through Ebay who lives about 50 miles outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was so glad to get the set of out of print papersleeve CDs for a fair price, that he now will get me RSD items and he doesn’t charge me more than he pays for them. I’ve sent him other stuff like a promo box for some Japanese mini lp cds, a few club mixes he wanted that I had access too and could get very cheap. He was interested in a couple of the club issues. I just got them for him and I didn’t even charge him for the records or postage. He was absolutely shocked that, yes, there are still people will help others they don’t know in this manner! I wanted a copy of Phish’s limited and numbered copy of “Hoist” which sold out close to me in minutes because people where buying multiple copies to sell on eBay! He had no problem getting me a copy for the asking price of like $29.00! It’s about lovers of music helping each other, not greedy people who are out to make a fast profit! It’s just not ethical in my opinion, help out your fellow music lover and stop being greedy about doing so.Texasbear

When I pre ordered it November 21, it was only available as bundle with 1,2 or 3 litho's. The stand alone vinyl version was "sold out". And also opened it, playing it, keeping it :-)

To be precise, the Lithographs were sold as a 'bundle' with your choice of any, or all of the prints, the Clear vinyl was sold separately or with a bundle option. It just so happened, that yes, the bundle options sold out shortly before the Clear pressing did =)
