As usual, he effortlessly weaves together his trademark shuffled beats, oldschool dub basslines and a myriad of effects and atmosphere to maintain his unique sound in the oversaturated world of psydub. There is certainly a dubstep influence, and while I will never care much for those kinds of sounds, Ott deals with them as tastefully as possible and never lets them take center stage in his sonic tapestry

Great 3rd release by Ott. There is certainly a dubstep influence, and while I will never care much for those kinds of sounds, Ott deals with them as tastefully as possible and never lets them take center stage in his sonic tapestry. Restraint, in today's music scene, is a powerful tool. I was also quite impressed by Ott's ambient pieces. I would not mind in the least a pure ambient album by this guy sometime. To close I'll just say that The Aubergine Of The Sun has quickly become my favorite Ott track, an atmospheric and emotional epic that rivals anything he's done on the previous two albums. Another success from an already decorated producer.

A well-made album. Some fans may be disappointed that it's missing the melancholic keys, timbres and melodies which made Splitting an Atom, Escape from Tulsa hell or Cley Hill such masterpieces. Seriously, where can you get a good melody nowadays? It's not just gonna pop out of the random clicking, whirring or squeaking sounds, no matter how much of them you put there. So this album is much more on the cheerful and sunny side, far from the land of brooding smokers, pondering life. There is still hell a lot of going on, but it sounds simplier, or better said, it sounds less purposeful. It sounds more like a bunch of random merry tunes and samples just mixed together with monumental effects and superb sound mastering. That becomes apparent when the melody lacks to give it all some structure. Maybe wanting a structure from this album is as futile, as wanting pop lyrics to make sense. So the advice is, old fans, cheer up and shut up. Potential fans, check out Ott, because he's all new and different if you didn't like him before.

After my personal lack of enjoyment from Vaccine (YB), listening to this album today was an amazing experience. Even the sounds around the well picked opening sample just made everything so much brighter, I felt goosebumps throughout the entire journey pretty much hahaha. Ive only recently gotten into Ott's music, both albums ridiculously well composed I def expected a nice warming playlist but my god his music has evolved even further! Very very intense soundscapes created, always a great setting at the start of all the songs. The beginning of the last album got me a wee bit worried, but of course it picked up and only got better from there. Although nearly all the songs have become instant favorites, the first song and Mouse Eating Cheese stood out the most. Very much reminds me of Shpongle and Entheogenic in terms of powerful and moving psybient music. This album has beautiful written all over it, Ott you are a god damn genius.

Basically the sound is massive throughout. Perhaps it's been mastered a little too loud.

Breakfast I agree with you But the vinyl sounds so damn good on my new system. Like swimming in a pool of BASS. It IS mastered heavy, thick, viscous and loud, but this is actually a great thing when the system is calibrated for it.

Ott has established his name - along with the entire sub-genre of psychedelic dub - with the release of his first album Blumenkraft. His second album Skylon stayed true to the source, delivering a similarly immaculate production from behind the knobs, blending ganga-beats and ethnic motifs with plenty of smooth psychedelica. However, having played out the initial "shock-value" of his predecessor, Skylon was naturally less remarkable. With his third album, Ott was ready to push his music to the next level while retaining what worked in the previous one.As it is transparent from the album-cover, you can safely assume the dosage has been drastically increased, and not just in quantity, but also in quality: "Take loads of acid and you will see the truth"ת Ott says in Mouse Rating Cheese. On parallel lines, it somewhat reminds me of how Shpongle's 4th album differs from its predecessors: its more intense. But, unlike Shpongle 4, Ott was careful to balance it with equally more "intense" ambient counterparts. This really helps set the mood of the album and bring it together.Overall the album feels a little less focused on 'chilled-out smokers music' and takes u on a rougher ride. Some monumental moments in Squirrel and Biscuits and Owl Stretching make the trip quite memorable, even if a little short (less than an hour of playing time). Considering it only costs $10 (!!??) I think it's definitely worth the price of the ticket.
